Manila Electric Company is engaged in the distribution and supply of electricity covering cities and a municipality in Metro Manila and in six provinces surrounding Metro Manila. Its subsidiaries are mainly engaged in engineering, construction and consulting services, information systems and technology, real estate, and other electricity-related services. The Company's operating businesses are organized and managed into three sements: power distribution segment, real estate segment and services segment. The power distribution segment is engeged in the distribution and supply of electricity covering franchise areas in the Luzon region. The real estate segment is engaged in real estate development and leasing. The services segment is engaged principally in engineering, construction and consulting services, and computer-related services. Meralco Energy, Inc. Meralco Energy, Inc. (MEI) provides loadside energy services to Meralco customers and non-Meralco customers. Starting operations in June 2000 with preventive maintenance of customer substations, MEI grew and expanded its services on chemical and electrical tests, emergency troubleshooting, supply and installation of major electrical equipment and minor construction. It also introduced heating, ventilation and air conditioning solutions using variable speed drives, as well as several lines of services, such as energy management through software control. MEI focuses venture into distributed generation and co-generation applications. e-Meralco Ventures, Inc. (e-MVI) e-Meralco Ventures, Inc. (e-MVI) creates optimal value to Meralco shareholders and customers by leveraging the power company's physical (infrastructure), intellectual (knowledge and human resources) and digital assets. e-MVI seeks to become the first true carrier's carrier in the country via the telecommunications structure, allowing local and international carriers, Internet service providers, data centers, other telecom service providers and businesses of all sizes to transmit data over a robust, reliable, scalable, secure and cost-effective communications highway. e-MVI offers integrated direct mail marketing (IDM) services, such as direct marketing leveraging on Meralco's database, as well as its monthly billing and delivery system; outdoor media advertising services utilizing Meralco's streetlight poles all over the franchise area, and PowerTXT service, providing Meralco's residential customers an information-communication service allowing them to interact with Meralco through SMS or text messaging technology. In October 2003, IDM operations were transferred to Meralco Financial Services, Inc. Asian Center for Energy Management (ACEM) ACEM was incorporated by Meralco's Business Development Office and was formally turned over to Human Resources in July 2002. It focuses to become an institution of learning for the Asian region. ACEM provides services in areas, such as policy formulating workshops, industry networking, research and feasibility studies, and events management. Meralco Financial Services Corporation (Finserve) Meralco Finserve was created to enhance shareholder value creation and expand customer service offerings through finance-related products and services. In July 2002, Meralco and its partner Union Bank launched Lumina Visa, the first utilities-specialized credit card that is also an international Visa credit card, accepted in over 16 million establishments. Lumina Visa consolidates typical household utility bills under an automatic charge arrangement into just one bill. Other utilities in partnership with Lumina Visa include Manila Water, Maynilad, Globe, PLDT, Smart, Piltel, Digitel, Home Cable, SKYCable, Infocom, Pacific Internet, Sky Internet and Now Cable.
