FOCUS Enhancements, Inc., incorporated in 1992, develops and markets video technology in two areas, semiconductors (semiconductor products) and digital media video systems (system products). The Company markets its products globally to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), and dealers and distributors in the consumer and professional channels. Its semiconductor products include several series of application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs), which process digital and analog video to be used with televisions, computer motherboards, graphics cards, video conferencing systems, Internet television, media center and interactive television applications. The Company markets its ASICs through semiconductor distribution channels. Its system products are designed to provide solutions in personal computer-to-television scan conversion, video presentation and acquisition, digital asset management and digital signage markets. The Company markets its system products primarily through professional channels. Its production products include video scan converters, video mixers, standard and high-definition digital video disk recorders, Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) recorders and file format conversion tools. Its digital asset management system products include network-based video servers, long-duration program monitors and capture/playout components. The Company's digital signage and retail media solutions products include standard and high-definition MPEG players, servers and associated control software. Semiconductor Products The Company's ASIC chips are custom designed for a specific application rather than a general-purpose chip like a microprocessor. Its ASIC products include the FS401/2/3, FS453/4 and FS455/6 series used for scaling, scan conversion, Internet television, portable media players and interactive television applications. These chips, due to their features and applicability, are used in many of the Company's and third-party consumer systems products. Focus' NTSC/PAL digital video co-processor technology is for designers of video and large display monitor products, as well as a variety of industrial applications. The FS401/2/3 series of chips are advanced personal computer (PC) to television processors with designs that improve video quality while reducing costs for the manufacturer. The chips are marketed to manufacturers of media players, scan converters, video conferencing equipment and commercial television OEMs, including its own consumer electronics product line marketed under the TView brand. The Company's FS453/4 was originally designed for use in the Microsoft Xbox. In July of 2003, it began production shipments of the FS454 to Microsoft, to meet Microsoft's Xbox peak production period. In addition to compatibility with the Microsoft Xbox, the FS453/4 has applications in other products that need television out, such as PC's, media centers and media adaptors. The chip provides normal television and high-definition television (HDTV) outputs, has a small footprint and has low power consumption. In July 2004, Focus began sampling the FS455/6. The FS455/6 uses the same technology as the FS454, but in a smaller (7 millimeter by 7 millimeter) ball grid array (BGA) package, which is suited for applications where space is critical. Applications that can potentially use the FS455 include portable phones, portable media players, personal digital assistants (PDAs) and other small, portable devices. The Company competes with Conexant Systems Inc., Philips Electronics, Chrontel Inc., Freescale Semiconductor Inc., Alereon Inc., Wisair, TZero, WiQuest and Staccato Communications, Inc. System Products Each of the Company's product categories has specific market segment focus. It offers a range of digital video solutions for the specialized video consumer, videographer and broadcast professional. Specific product functionality includes recording video to disk, digital video mixing, digital video file conversion, encoding, playout, presentation and rich media management. It sells the products
